Adult Christian Education Schedule

Sunday Bible Study Schedule

1 & 2 Thessalonians (August 30 – October 18)

First impressions stick with us.  Paul’s first impression of the Thessalonian Christians was an especially powerful one: The gospel message he preached grasped their hearts and minds, and transformed their lives.  That memory moves Paul to write to the young church that’s bubbling with a sense of the power of the living God.  This study seeks to open our lives to that God who leaves a lasting impression also on us.

The Gospels: How Not to Be a Pharisee (October 25 – November 22)

This course looks at Jesus’ interaction with a group of first-century Jewish religious leaders called Pharisees.  As revealed in the four Gospels, these Pharisees received the brunt of Jesus’ criticism.  The ability to see sin in others and ignore it in your own heart is one of the distinguishing characteristics of a Pharisee.  Unfortunately, this tendency is as common today as it was in Jesus’ time.  This course will help you learn to pursue God with an open heart.

The People of the Nativity (November 29 – December 20)

The people involved in the Nativity story are familiar to us, but what can we learn from them?  This course will look at those in the genealogy of Jesus, as well as the more familiar characters of Joseph, Mary, the shepherds, and the angels.  Through these people we will learn about the human condition and God’s character.  We’ll also learn how doubts can turn to faith, the importance of humility and obedience, and how to gain an eternal perspective.

1 Corinthians (January 3 – March 28)

Christianity isn’t a philosophy, a set of ideas.  It isn’t a path of spirituality or a rule of life.  It isn’t a political agenda.  It includes and indeed gives energy to all those things; but at its very heart is something different.  It is good news about an event which has happened, an event because of which the world can never be the same again.  And those who believe it and live by it will never be the same again either.  This is Paul’s message to the Corinthians – and to us today.  This study will guide us in leading, loving and worshiping differently as those being transformed by the resurrected Jesus.

Acts: Learning from the Apostles (April 11 – May 16)

At first glance, it seems as though Jesus asks impossible demands of us.  However, a close look at the Book of Acts lets us know that we are not left alone with his commands.  He gives us his own Spirit to supply the power and strength to so what he asks.  This course will show us how to tap into that power.  It discusses how to live life with passion, get off to a good start, worship through our trials, and keep a proper perspective.

This group meets in the Parish Hall from 9:55 to 10:50 am each Sunday.  For more information, please contact Don Clayton or Ron Messier.
